RGV Shuttle: Collision Prevention for High-Speed Operation of Rail Logistics Lines

Scenario Requirements and Pain Points:
In automated production lines or automated storage systems, RGVs (rail-guided shuttle vehicles) are responsible for high-frequency, straight-line material handling tasks. Since RGVs typically carry heavy loads, operate at high speeds, and have significant braking inertia, if a person accidentally enters the vehicle’s operating path or if foreign objects—such as pallet fragments or cargo—fall onto the track, the vehicle will be unable to swerve and avoid the obstacle, making severe collision accidents highly likely. Traditional contact-type anti-collision barriers can only trigger at the instant of impact and cannot provide sufficient buffer distance to counteract the vehicle’s tremendous kinetic energy, thus posing an extremely high risk of equipment damage and production line downtime.

Application Logic:

Deploy F31-C, F51, F61, or F80 obstacle-avoidance LiDARs at the front end of the RGV’s direction of travel (for bidirectional operation, install them both at the front and rear). The LiDARs project precisely shaped rectangular or trapezoidal monitoring zones along the track direction.

  • Hierarchical Braking: The system sets up a “Deceleration Zone (yellow)” and an “Emergency Stop Zone (red).” When the radar detects an obstacle at a long distance, the RGV first initiates deceleration to reduce kinetic energy. If the obstacle persists and enters the danger zone, the emergency stop is triggered, ensuring the vehicle comes to a safe halt before any collision occurs.
  • Area Switching: If the RGV involves track switching or curved-path operation, the radar can automatically switch the shape of the detection area based on PLC signals, thereby preventing accidental scanning of equipment located alongside the track.

Technological Advantages:
This series of radars features millisecond-level response speeds, perfectly matching the braking requirements of high-speed RGVs. In particular, the F80—with its ultra-high frame rate of 50 Hz—is ideal for use in ultra-high-speed shuttle vehicles; while the F51 offers a 100% domestically produced solution for projects that are highly sensitive to supply-chain security. The software supports the creation of narrow, tunnel-like protection zones that can closely monitor along the edges of the tracks, effectively shielding against interference from nearby shelves or machinery on either side of the track and achieving precise protection with “zero false alarms.”
