Collaborative Operations in 3D Warehousing: 3D Safe Interconnection Between AGVs and Overhead Cranes
Scenario Requirements and Pain Points:
In modern smart factories, the operational areas of ground logistics (AGVs/AMRs) and aerial logistics (cranes and gantry robots) often overlap significantly. When a crane is lowering a suspended load, if an AGV suddenly enters the area below, a severe “Mount Tai crushing” collision accident can easily occur. Meanwhile, conventional AGVs are equipped only with 2D radar, which can only scan the ground surface and completely “overlook” objects—such as cargoes hovering mid-air or lifting devices in the process of descending—resulting in a critical vertical blind spot hazard.
Application Logic:
This is a comprehensive “integrated space-and-ground” protection solution:
Aerial View (T61): A T61 3D stereoscopic protective LiDAR is installed above the lifting device or overhead crane’s grab, projecting a conical light curtain downward. Before the cargo is lowered, the T61 first performs a volumetric scan of the area below the intended drop point to confirm that no AGVs or personnel are occupying the space before permitting the cargo to be dropped.
Ground-level perspective (T51/T53): Install T51/T53 3D depth imaging radars on the AGV body to create a forward-looking stereo perception zone. This system not only detects ground obstacles but also identifies suspended or descending objects ahead, enabling the AGV to initiate emergency braking and avoid collisions in advance.
Technological Advantages:
This solution leverages 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology, completely breaking the limitations of traditional 2D planar protection. The T61 supports custom-defined complex three-dimensional protection zones—such as conical and pyramidal shapes—that precisely match the working envelope of lifting devices, effectively preventing false alarms. Meanwhile, the T51/T53, with their all-solid-state design and high reliability, complement AGVs by providing perception capabilities in the vertical dimension. Working in tandem with dual-view angles, these systems achieve seamless, all-round three-dimensional protection—from ground level to airspace—ensuring intrinsic safety even in complex logistics environments.
