All-round low-position collision prevention and safe obstacle avoidance for unmanned forklifts


Unmanned forklifts navigate busy warehouse or factory environments, where ground conditions can be extremely complex. Low obstacles—such as scattered pallets and goods—as well as suddenly appearing human feet and shelf supports in narrow passageways all pose significant safety risks to operations. Traditional single-radar solutions often suffer from “blind spots” on either side of the vehicle’s front end; particularly when the vehicle is turning, these blind spots greatly increase the likelihood of lateral scrapes or collisions, potentially leading to equipment downtime, repairs, and even injuries to personnel.

 

Application Logic: At the left-front and right-front positions of the unmanned forklift’s chassis, two F31-C or F61 obstacle-avoidance laser radars from YINTAILI are deployed in a symmetrical configuration. Working in tandem, these two radars create an all-encompassing “electronic collision-avoidance shield” that covers a 270° field of view directly ahead of and on either side of the vehicle’s front end, leaving no blind spots. The radars continuously scan for obstacles along the vehicle’s travel path and dynamically adjust the obstacle-avoidance zones based on the vehicle’s speed and steering angle—for example, extending the detection range during straight-line driving and widening the lateral detection area when turning. As soon as an intruding object is detected, the system immediately triggers a deceleration command or an emergency stop.

 

Technological Advantages: This dual-radar layout completely eliminates low-position blind spots around the vehicle body, achieving true all-around protection. The F31-C and F61 models are specially designed for mobile robots, featuring compact dimensions and IP65 industrial-grade protection that make them resistant to vibration and dust. Their built-in intelligent zone-switching function supports up to 16 sets of obstacle-avoidance zones, perfectly adapting to the safety strategies required for forklifts in various operating conditions—including straight-line travel, turning, and entering/exiting elevators. While ensuring maximum safety, this feature also maximizes the vehicle’s operational efficiency.
