Railway Foreign Object Intrusion Active Safety Monitoring
As the lifeline of the national economy, the safe operation of railways is of paramount importance. However, the complex geographical conditions along railway lines mean that risks such as rockfalls, mudslides, and intrusions by pedestrians or animals—known as "foreign object intrusion"—constantly threaten train safety. Traditional video surveillance systems are easily affected by lighting conditions, rain, and snow, making it difficult to achieve precise, round-the-clock detection. Meanwhile, manual inspections are inefficient and have limited coverage. Therefore, the urgent need for railway safety lies in building an all-weather, blind-spot-free “invisible protective net” that can immediately issue an alert upon the first sign of foreign object intrusion.
Application Logic: In key areas along railway lines that are prone to trespassing (such as tunnel entrances, cutting slopes, and road-over-rail bridges), we have deployed YINTAILI Technology’s “LiDAR + Gimbal” 3D scanning system. By rotating the gimbal, the LiDAR performs high-frequency, high-density 3D scans of the railway clearance limits and surrounding areas, instantly constructing a 3D point cloud model of the site. The system’s built-in intelligent algorithms compare the real-time scan data with the standard clearance model. Once an object—such as a falling rock or a pedestrian—is detected entering the clearance zone, an alarm is immediately triggered, and information about the object’s location and size is transmitted in real time to the dispatch center, activating the signaling system to halt trains.
Technological Advantages: This solution employs industrial-grade measurement-grade LiDAR equipped with IP67/IP68 protection ratings and intelligent echo-processing technology, enabling it to operate reliably regardless of rain, snow, smog, intense sunlight, or pitch-black nighttime conditions. By combining “2D radar + high-precision gimbal,” it achieves low-cost, wide-angle 3D coverage with a monitoring range of 50 to 120 meters and detection accuracy as high as ±3 cm. Compared to pure vision-based solutions, this system does not rely on external light sources and boasts strong anti-interference capabilities. Compared to conventional radar systems, it provides rich 3D spatial information, effectively distinguishing between false alarms caused by falling leaves, flying birds, and other irrelevant objects, truly delivering “wide coverage, accurate detection, and rapid reporting.”
