At key nodes such as the entrances and exits of high-speed rail stations and subway stations, transfer corridors, and escalator areas, passenger flows are dense and highly dynamic. Real-time acquisition of accurate passenger flow data is crucial for station capacity scheduling, emergency alerts, and safe crowd management. Traditional video-based passenger-counting solutions often require complex background modeling and are susceptible to factors such as changes in lighting conditions (e.g., bright light or shadows), mutual occlusion among people, and varying levels of crowding, all of which can reduce counting accuracy. Moreover, in certain areas with stringent privacy requirements, video data collection also poses compliance risks.

 

Application Logic: Install YINTAILI Technology’s F30/T51 series LiDAR passenger flow detection system directly above the passageway or entrance/exit. The radar emits high-frequency laser beams downward, performing high-speed scans of pedestrians passing through the cross-section. The system is equipped with a self-developed human body contour recognition algorithm that accurately distinguishes pedestrians from objects such as luggage and strollers by analyzing head-and-shoulder features in the point cloud data. It also tracks pedestrians’ movement trajectories in real time and precisely determines their entry and exit directions. The system can output in real time key metrics such as the total passenger flow in the current passageway, the number of entrants and exits, instantaneous density, and velocity distribution, and uploads this data via Ethernet to the station’s integrated management platform.

 

Technological Advantages: Leveraging the high-precision ranging capabilities of LiDAR, this solution effectively addresses the challenges of “side-by-side occlusion” and “lighting interference” encountered in video-based systems, maintaining a statistical accuracy rate of over 99% even in densely crowded environments. The system processes point cloud data directly without capturing facial images, thereby fully protecting passenger privacy. The equipment is easy to install and requires no complex on-site calibration. Moreover, it boasts exceptional environmental adaptability—operating reliably whether in completely dark tunnels or brightly lit outdoor passageways—providing robust data support for building safe and efficient passenger flow management systems at stations.
