How should you choose an obstacle-avoidance solution for shelf-type AGVs?

2024-05-24

When selecting obstacle-avoidance solutions for shelf-type AGVs, several options are available, including ultrasonic sensors, infrared sensors, vision sensors, and LiDAR sensors. Each type of sensor has its own unique advantages and disadvantages. Currently, the most commonly used obstacle-avoidance solution is the LiDAR sensor.

Characteristics of LiDAR sensors

1. High-precision positioning

Lidar’s ranging accuracy can reach several centimeters, far surpassing that of other sensors. This enables AGVs to construct detailed three-dimensional maps based on this distance information, achieving highly accurate positioning.

2. Real-time perception and obstacle avoidance

The real-time scanning capability of LiDAR enables AGVs to detect obstacles in the surrounding environment in real time. When an obstacle is detected, the AGV can immediately obtain information such as the obstacle’s location and size, and based on this information, it can adjust its travel path to avoid collisions with the obstacle.

3. Suitable for complex environments

Lidar can accurately detect various obstacles in complex environments, including both static and dynamic obstacles such as pedestrians and other vehicles. This enables AGVs to operate safely in busy environments like factories and warehouses.

4. High-speed scanning and update frequency

LiDAR boasts a very high scanning and update frequency, enabling AGVs to obtain the latest environmental information in real time, thus achieving real-time perception and rapid decision-making.

Product Recommendation

The Raimei F31-C obstacle-avoidance LiDAR adopts the Time-of-Flight (TOF) ranging principle. It provides a 270° field of view and can protect areas within a maximum range of 25 meters. It features broad environmental adaptability and strong anti-interference capability. Thanks to its precise temperature-control system and reliable sealing design, this LiDAR maintains stable operation even in harsh weather conditions such as rain, fog, snow, ice, and extreme temperatures—both high and low. While ensuring safe and efficient production, it strikes an excellent balance between cost and performance, earning high recognition from users.
