Outdoor Low-Speed Unmanned Vehicle: Forward Blind Spot Suppression and 3D Environment Perception

Scenario Requirements and Pain Points:
Low-speed autonomous vehicles, such as unmanned delivery vehicles and unmanned sweepers, typically operate on outdoor, unstructured roads. Although the main lidar mounted on the roof has a long detection range, it creates a significant near-field blind spot beneath the vehicle’s front end. As a result, the main lidar often struggles to detect low-lying obstacles—such as curbs, pets, or traffic cones—as well as road surface potholes (negative obstacles). Moreover, intense sunlight outdoors places extremely high demands on the sensors’ anti-interference capabilities; ordinary depth cameras tend to fail under bright lighting conditions.

Application Logic:
A T70 3D depth-imaging LiDAR is embedded and installed at the front bumper of the autonomous vehicle. The radar projects a wide-field-of-view, array-based laser beam diagonally downward, covering the vehicle’s forward blind spots.
Blind-Spot Supplement: Real-time output of high-density 3D point clouds to precisely detect low-lying obstacles in close proximity, filling the perception gaps of the main radar and preventing vehicles from scraping against objects when starting off or following slowly behind other vehicles.
Pavement Analysis: Utilizing depth data to identify curb heights, detect potholes or steps on the road surface, and assist planning algorithms in determining whether a vehicle can safely pass through, thereby avoiding getting stuck in blind spots or overturning.

Technological Advantages:
The T70 is built on advanced dToF (direct time-of-flight) technology and is specifically designed for outdoor applications. Its most significant advantage lies in its exceptional resistance to strong ambient light (>100k Lux)—even under direct sunlight at midday in summer, it can still deliver stable depth images without overexposure or blinding, unlike conventional cameras. Meanwhile, the T70 offers a wide field of view (Wide-FOV), enabling a single device to cover the near-field area equivalent to the width of a vehicle. This makes it the “golden partner” for outdoor low-speed autonomous vehicles, ensuring safe, all-weather operation.
