Autonomous Forklift: Precision Forking Assistance and Pallet Hole Position Recognition
Scenario Requirements and Pain Points:
In the entire operational process of unmanned forklifts, “precise fork positioning” is the stage with the highest failure rate. Due to uneven ground surfaces, deviations in pallet orientation, or deformation of goods, relying solely on vehicle navigation and positioning often fails to ensure perfect alignment between the forks and the pallet’s hole positions. Once the deviation exceeds a certain threshold, the forks may collide with the pallet’s upright posts or even topple the goods, leading to serious logistics accidents. Traditional mechanical limit switches or 2D radar systems struggle to capture depth information about the pallet’s cross-section, making it impossible for them to handle pallets with varying orientations.
Application Logic:
A T52 3D depth-imaging LiDAR is installed between the two forks of the unmanned forklift (at the bottom of the mast). The radar rises and lowers in sync with the forks, projecting a 3D detection beam forward.
Hole Position Recognition: As the forklift approaches the cargo, the T52 acquires a high-precision depth point cloud of the front surface of the pallet. The algorithm automatically identifies the center coordinates and orientation angle (yaw angle) of the pallet’s hole positions.
Servo alignment: The system实时ly calculates the spatial deviation between the fork tips and the pallet hole positions, guiding the AGV controller to make fine adjustments (lateral movement and rotation) until the deviation is eliminated, thereby achieving smooth insertion with "100% accuracy."
Technological Advantages:
The T52 employs pure solid-state technology with no mechanical rotating parts, offering exceptional resistance to vibration and shock. It is perfectly suited for the harsh, high-vibration environments encountered during forklift operations. Its compact size allows it to be easily integrated into the narrow space at the base of the forklift forks. Compared to visual cameras, the T52 is unaffected by ambient lighting conditions—whether in total darkness or intense light—and can provide absolute depth data with millimeter-level precision. Even when dealing with black pallets or goods wrapped in stretch film, the T52 delivers stable and reliable object recognition and localization.
