At 5:00 p.m. on June 5, 2022, a heart-stopping scene unfolded at Zizhu Yuan Park: a child, roughly aged 7 or 8, accidentally fell into the water while playing near the Zhushen Hejing Lake. The child’s mother, who was standing nearby, quickly rolled up her skirt and jumped into the lake, ready to pull the child out. However, since she wasn’t a strong swimmer, she soon found herself struggling to keep hold of the child. Passersby, witnessing this perilous situation, immediately began shouting for help: “A child has fallen into the water!” At that moment, the child, unable to stay upright in the water, began to lean toward the center of the lake. The child reached out desperately, trying to grab onto anything that might save him, but lost his balance completely. The lake water was nearly engulfing the child. Just as the situation became critically urgent, a man among a group of parents who had gathered nearby to chat heard the cries for help and swiftly dashed toward the spot where the child had fallen into the water.

The man threw his cell phone aside and, without a second thought, jumped into the lake. The water level in the lake had already risen to about 80 to 90 centimeters, roughly up to the man’s waist. He headed straight toward the spot where the child had fallen into the water. Once he reached the child, he quickly lifted the little one out of the water to prevent the child from choking again. Because the lakebed was covered with deep silt, it took the man considerable effort to finally hoist the child safely onto the shore. Immediately afterward, the man helped the child’s mother get ashore as well.

Afterward, the man himself prepared to climb ashore, but because the lakeshore was too steep, he tried several times without success and ended up scraping his knees on the rocks.
